Appointments, cancellations, emergencies and general questions. We're here to help.
A routine dental cleaning is the best way to prevent dental emergencies and keep your smile healthy. When a patient visits us for a dental cleaning, they will see a dentist, a hygienist, receive an examination, an oral cancer screening, and a dental cleaning.
Our hygienists are some of the best in their field and have received extensive training that meets and many times exceeds what is required by the State of Alabama for their Dental Hygiene License. In addition, our hygienists care about your whole self, not just your teeth.
Our approach is a preventative one: our goal is to keep your mouth healthy and help you avoid developing dental issues. Preventative dental care and helping you maintain a healthy smile is our passion. Our dental assistant staff and hygienists have an average of 15 years of experience. We're proud of this, and it is a benefit to you.
Biannual cleanings and dental exams help to identify gum disease, identify problems, and offer solutions. There is no single cause for gum disease, but there are contributing factors that include:
Smoking or chewing tobacco
TMJ / TMD
Diabetes
Genetic Predisposition
Pregnancy and Menopause
Certain types of medications
Misaligned teeth
Teeth grinding and clenched of teeth
Chronic stress and poor diet
A dental cleaning appointment will include a dental exam and the following:
Removal of plaque: Plaque is a sticky and an almost invisible film that forms on teeth. It consists of saliva, living bacteria, and food debris. Some of the bacteria will produce toxins that can inflame gum tissue. This tissue inflammation is the source of gingivitis and periodontal disease.
Calculus Removal (tartar): Calculus is when plaque hardens and has been left on teeth for a long period of time and is firmly attached to a tooth surface. Calculus can form above and below a person's gum line, and can only be removed with specialized dental instruments.
Teeth polishing: We will also use distinctive polishing instruments to help remove plaque and stains. Followed by good oral hygiene, this will go a long way in keeping plaque from developing into calculus (tartar).
Preventative dental care and helping you maintain a healthy smile is our passion.
